What Type of Business Owner Are You?

In business, each of us has a natural preference to be one of three business styles. The first step is to determine which type of work you naturally prefer.

This might be over simplifying business life a little bit, but each of us has a natural preference to be one of the following business styles:

Minder, grinder or finder

1)      Mindersmanagement – minding  the people

2)      Grinders – the technicians  – grinding out the work

3)      Finders – the sales team – finding the customers

The first step is to determine which type of work you naturally prefer. I come across a lot of business owners who love to be grinders. The problem is that if you are a grinder, and just want to stay being a grinder you won’t make a great business owner. Who is going to mind the people?

If you would rather be finder, you have a decent chance of succeeding as a business owner. You can focus on being a finder as long as you recognize you’re not minding the business, and hire a minder to take care of that role.

If you are a naturally a good minder, you fit the role of business owner the best. You can hire some finders and some grinders and spend your days minding them. In order to be a better minder, it doesn’t hurt to know how to find and grind. The knowledge helps you keep the team productive and efficient.

So, if you don’t mind me asking, what type is your natural preference?
