“A simple life is not seeing how little we can get by with—that’s poverty—but how efficiently we can put first things first. . . . When you’re clear about your purpose and your priorities, you can painlessly discard whatever does not support these, whether it’s clutter in your cabinets or commitments on your calendar.” – Victoria Moran
Here’s our advice on how to simplify your workday.
Create blocks of time for all actions to be performed throughout the day. Let co-workers know when you’re available and when you are not to be disturbed. Schedule regular breaks and as well as time to “catch up”.
Graciously say no to time wasting, energy draining co-workers and customers. Give up the need for control and learn to delegate. Work to create systems to make the process easier.
Science has proven that multitasking doesn’t work. Focus on one thing at a time and work without distractions.
Whether speaking with a colleague or taking a short walk during downtime, practice being calm, mindful and aware of your surroundings and personal interactions.
Set yourself up for a productive morning
Before leaving work, create a list of the most important actions for the next day. Declutter and organize your workspace so you can start the day in a productive manner.
If your work and personal goals are aligned, then time away from work is essential to truly enjoy the fruits of your labour.
Consider the big picture
Did you forget to send an email? Miss a deadline? Likely your business will be fine. Let it go and add it to tomorrow’s action plan.
If simplifying your work day is a difficult but desirable concept for you, then start small. Try to implement one new habit each week.
Let me know how it goes.
